BE A Street Mate!
“Street Mate” is a campaign about neighbours helping neighbours.
During a natural disaster or emergency, like a flood or bushfire, we need to be more aware of people in our community, especially those who are vulnerable or living with a disability, who may need extra support during a crisis.
How you can help
- Ensure a neighbour has a plan and is prepared for a natural disaster or emergency
- In an emergency, help them to activate their plan and evacuate quickly
- Check if they need transport or any extra support
- Check and ensure they are being evacuated in plenty of time by others
- Stay in touch with them after an evacuation
- Make sure they have what they need until they can go home.

About Street Mate
Street Mate is an extension of the EMBER Program, a resource for helping individuals prepare for emergencies like floods and bushfires. Street Mate focuses on neighbours being more aware of people in their community who may be elderly, living with disability and may need extra support in a crisis like a fire or flood.
The EMBER Program
EMBER has tools and resources to help individuals plan and prepare for an emergency. It links with Street Mate when someone who is vulnerable needs to act and evacuate. Street Mate is about connecting neighbours with neighbours to ensure the elderly and people living with disability are supported in an emergency.
